Week 6: Videos online

As you may see by the title of this blog, that this is week 6 of Learning 2.0. This time around, I have been asked to blog about my discoveries in both YouTube and Google video and think of ways/possible uses they can have in my library.

For starters, video could always be used to document events and the like in libraries. This implementation is relatively new, but is building all the time. With that said, it's good to know to libraries can upload their events, author talks, displays - literally whatever they want onto a video server such as YouTube or Google video.

They, a library, could also promote, at the same time, everything else uploaded onto a video server for anybody to see. It heightens the awareness people have with libraries as well as promoting the libraries functions and events.

Wikis!

Wikis are not new to me at all. I have created and edited pages before now, but it is still fun and stuff. I think the wiki format looks good and its generally quite user-friendly as well.

I was fascinated to find out that libraries implement wikis in their libraries as well as in other government sectors, as the 'trivia' fact that the CIA developed Intellipedia - a collaborative intranet tool.

Libraries all over the world could use wikis as a place to promote events, provide book reviews and that's just for starters...

RSS Feeds.

Explore: - In your blog, create an entry that reflects on what you searched for and what you found. If you are stuck, you can use these questions to help start you out:

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders?

It's quite simple and convenient.

What sites did you select for your RSS reader?

A whole range, from 'ABS for librarians' to 'Powerhouse Museum’s Picture of the day blog' to 'Dogreader'. At least 10 in total to date.

How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work?

I suppose libraries can let people get updated information about services and events, but that would only be the beginning.

How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology?

By implementing them into their arsenal and promoting not only library RSS feeds, but more on the events via the RSS feeds.

Did you find any good examples of other library blogs?

Sutherland's blog is quite efficient and I would say it's 'good'.

I agree to this statement and so should you...

Awesome.

Note: This has nothing to do with libraries, my library or my life at my library, but the fact remains.

My Learning 2.0 finally begins!

What do you write about?
Try something on the theme of Learning 2.0

What do you hope to learn from the program?

If I learning anything from this program, I will be happy, but I only truly hope to improve and enhance pre-existing skills.

What do you think about Lifelong Learning?

Lifelong Learning is a 'good' thing.

What other blogs have you discovered? What do you like about them?

I have heard of many blogs, but do not remember many at the moment. Wordpress comes to mind, but other than that, they seem to be a way people can communicate what's going on in their worlds (or heads...). I don't think they're for everyone however.

Can you see a use for blogs inside the Library?

I am not sure. If there was enough interest or drive for it, then yes.

How about blogging for a client audience?

I would give it a go.
